Let me be the first to welcome our students back from a much deserved summer vacation to the start of this new school year. Last year was one of the most successful years that our district has experienced in a long time. Although we have a rich tradition of excellence, last year will stand out as one of our best.

In athletics, our student athletes retained the Fireland’s Conference All Sports Award for a third consecutive year. We had our first individual State Track Champion in Spencer Cole and he was joined at the State Track meet by Morgan Luedy, who also participated in the National Junior Track and Field Meet over the summer. Our Girls Basketball and Baseball teams experienced their most successful season in terms of post season play. NL student athletes captured multiple conference awards and area newspaper awards.

In the arts, Mrs. Qualich directed our students in a performance of the Wizard of Oz. The students were absolutely fabulous! Many parents and community members are still talking about this being one of the best productions they’ve seen in many many years. In addition, New London High School’s Music Department hosted the Fireland’s Conference Honors Band and Choir. This collection of superior musicians from across the conference provides for a unique opportunity to learn and develop their skills under the tutelage of professional conductors. Also, our Winter Guard had an amazingly successful year, as did your vocal and instrumental students at competition.

Academically, we witnessed many innovative lessons and opportunities for our students. Whether it was Mrs. Rowland utilizing Google Cardboard to send students on virtual field trips, or Mrs. Cordonier’s science students creating experiments in the lab, or Mr. Kamm starting a honeybee hive, or Mr. Karnehm’s students producing video announcements and 3D printing, to name a few, our students were learning with hands on, student centered activities that provide them with real world experiences.

Providing the best educational opportunity as possible is always the main goal of our district. As the Mission statement for our Districts states:

The Mission of the New London Local Schools is to work with and unite community resources to provide continuously improving academic, extracurricular, and work related programs designed so that all students can achieve a successful level of performance.

In reflecting on last year’s successes, its clear we met the mission of our District. Yes, as the Mission Statement shares, our District strives to continuously improve our programs. For that reason, this summer we launched a new registration portal that allows parents to complete all necessary paperwork for students, as well as stay up to date with any news, events, and schedules. The Elementary is launching a series of web-based platforms to enhance student learning and enrichment in Math and English. The High School and Middle School are launching a new Math Series called Erik. This program will provide a more comprehensive and consistent education for our students. In addition, New London will continue programs that we launched in previous years such as our partnership with LCCC for College Credit Plus, the Digital Academy, PikMyKids, Remind, and Google Apps for Education, to name a few.

In short, the past school year was a tremendously successful one for New London Local Schools and on behalf of the teachers, staff, and administration we are exited to start a new school year and build on the success of this past year.
