One Call Message 3/13/18

We’d like to take a moment and follow up with the email Mr. Romano sent out regarding changes to our district’s safety protocols.  Many of those changes will have limited impact on your student as they are more procedural for our staff, but a few of these changes will.  Additionally, these changes will take effect the week of March 19th. First, our staff begin the supervision of students at 7:20 am each day.  For that reason, we are asking that parents do not drop off their students until that time. Additionally, parents and guests to our building will need to report to the office and receive a visitors badge.  Also, we are requiring that all visitors are escorted while in our building. When there are special events, such as Grandparents Day, specific arrangements will be made and clearly communicated to our families.  Finally, there has been much talk about mechanical pencils, even an article written in a local paper. Although it is true that we were moving towards a ban on mechanical pencils based on the potential for them being used to traffic illegal drugs, after further consultation with our teaching staff, we feel that this will create additional hardships for our students, teachers, and families.  Therefore, students will be able to continue their use while the school administration and staff dive deeper into this topic.

Finally, we are asking that you have a conversation with your student regarding safety practices.

Things like not opening doors for strangers, propping doors open, along with notifying a teacher or school staff of an unaccompanied visitor in our building are good practices that help keep our school safe.

We want to remind everyone that these are just a few of the additional security measures that we are putting into place.  We value your input as we continue implementing these procedures.

Have a good evening.
