Risner Review

Week of February 24, 2014

Happy 100th Day of School!!!  We did several activities today to celebrate the 100th day of school.  The students were surprised at how long 100 seconds actually is.  Ask your child what their favorite 100th day activity was.

Math-We will take a math test on Wednesday.  A big concept in 1st grade is to know addition and subtraction math facts.  You can make some out of index cards so your child can practice at home.  We are practicing them a lot here at school.  I really want the students to get away from using their fingers and counters all the time.

Letters/Reading-Students will continue to bring a book home every night to read.  Remind them to tap out unknown words and to look for smaller words inside bigger words.  We have also been working on characters, setting, main events, and the problem in the story.   We have also been learning the sounds: ar, er, ir, or, and ur.  Ask your child why we call these combinations “Bossy R’s”.  The students will be taking a unit test on Friday.

Specials Schedule-Monday-Music/Gym, Tuesday-Art, Wednesday-Gym/Music, Thursday-Library, and Friday-Music/Gym.  *Make sure your child is wearing or bringing proper gym shoes on the days we have gym.

Important Information-We will be taking our last round of MAP tests on Tuesday, March 4th and Thursday, March 6th.  Friday, March 21st is an Early Release Day at 1:15.  Spring Break is Monday, March 24th-Friday, March 28th.  Enjoy your time off!  Our Music Concert will be soon.  Look for more details to come from the music department.

As always, if you ever need to contact me, you can write a note, call at 419-929-8117 or email at [email protected].
