New London Local Schools announces a grant award of $31,750 as a partner in the  Wellington Exempted Village Schools (WEVS)’ Ohio Collaborative Fund for Educating Remotely and Transforming Schools Grant. WEVS served as the Local Education Agency (LEA) and applicant for the grant on behalf of the Rural STEM Collaborative (RSC), a four rural school districts consortium of Mapleton, New London, Northwestern and Wellington. The RSC has been successful in working together with HSTW NE Ohio Region to secure the additional funding needed to build local capacity for change, improve education in rural schools, and build a K-12 STEM pipeline of career-ready students.

The grant will allow each district to hire a Success Team Learning Coach who will monitor the remote learning of 20 rural remote learners in grades K-3 and their families. The grant will determine if the Success Team approach reduces the loss of learning for remote learnings, especially those who are off-track due to the March 2020 shut down and the “summer slide”. The Success Team Coach will support students and families in dealing with learning at home, using new technology, and understanding how to complete assignments using the new software. The districts are also ready to support these students' social and emotional needs during the weekly Success Team Learning Coach sessions.

The intended results of the project is to ensure 100, K-3 rural remote learners and families will be able to access high quality remote learning, and participate and effectively use materials, devices and platforms as monitored through weekly sessions with the district’s Success Teams.  The districts hope to learn the support needed to ensure rural remote K-3 learners are engaged in meaningful high-quality learning in a remote setting and are ready to transition to the next grade level
